Angelo Volpe was born in Naples (Italy), where he lives and works.

In 1995 he obtained the Diploma of “Applied Art in Graphics for Advertising and Photography”.  In 2000 he obtained a "Degree in Painting" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. After the studies, in 2002 he collaborated as an assistant on the creation of a wall drawing by the artist Sol LeWitt at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples, becoming one of the main reference assistants of the American artist in Italy.

Active since 2005 with his personal artistic research, Volpe favors painting as a medium for the creation of his works. Angelo Volpe's artistic research draws inspiration from everyday life, examining aspects related to the pleasures of materiality, the complexity of the soul and the infinite nuances of memory. His paintings, in keeping with the painting techniques of the Renaissance masters, are created through an elaborate process consisting of the superimposition of multiple layers of colour glazes, which give the paintings a sensual and realistic effect. Volpe summarises and reinterprets the methodology and shrewd gaze of genre painting,  while remaining skilfully rooted in his contemporaneity, exploring themes related to the conformism of the “society of appearances”. His subjects, totally immersed in their daily routines, possess a timeless emotionality  and immediacy. Through the skilful use of light and shadow, he creates evocative atmospheres and images full of intimacy, revealing sumptuous textures, hair, skin, glass, fabric and meticulous details which, brushstroke after brushstroke, lend a dreamlike quality to his pictorial universe. His pears are not limited to a single narrative; rather, they urge viewers to look beyond the initial story, inviting them to uncover the various levels of interpretation contained in each scene. Representation becomes a tool for investigating subjects depicted in their appearance, while their inner selves belong to ‘another’ dimension, an immaterial extension implicit in the figuration so that meaning can be intercepted and perceived.Painting, a utopian dream, becomes an intimate refuge through which to whisper the imminent need for an indispensable vital urgency.

Angelo Volpe nasce a Napoli (Italia), dove vive e lavora. 

Nel 1995 consegue il Diploma di “Arte Applicata in Grafica per la Pubblicità e la Fotografia”. Nel 2000 consegue la “Laurea in Pittura” presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Ultimati gli studi, nel 2002 collabora come assistente alla realizzazione di un wall drawing dell’artista Sol LeWitt presso il Museo di Capodimonte di Napoli, divenendo uno dei principali assistenti di riferimento dell’artista statunitense in Italia.

Attivo dal 2005 con la sua personale ricerca artistica, Volpe privilegia la pittura come medium per la realizzazione delle sue opere. La ricerca artistica di  Angelo Volpe trae impulso dalla quotidianità, scrutando aspetti connessi ai piaceri della materialità, alla complessità dell'anima e alle infinite sfumature della memoria. I suoi dipinti, conformi alla tecnica pittorica dei maestri del rinascimento, sono eseguiti tramite un elaborato processo, che consiste nella sovrapposizione di molteplici strati di velature di colore, che conferiscono alla resa pittorica un effetto sensuale e realistico. Volpe riassume e reinterpreta la metodologia e lo sguardo sagace della pittura di genere,  pur rimanendo abilmente radicato nella sua contemporaneità, esplorando tematiche relative al conformismo della ‘società dell’apparire’. I suoi soggetti totalmente inseriti nella routine giornaliera possiedono un’emotività  e un'immediatezza senza tempo. Mediante l’uso sapiente di luci e ombre genera atmosfere suggestive, immagini dense di intimità, che rivelano texture sontuose, capelli, pelle, vetro, stoffa, dettagli rigorosi che, pennellata dopo pennellata, conferiscono qualità oniriche al suo universo pittorico. Le sue pere non si limitano a una singola narrazione, piuttosto, esortano gli spettatori a guardare oltre la storia iniziale, invitandoli a svelare i vari livelli di interpretazione contenuti in ogni scena. La rappresentazione diviene strumento per indagare soggetti raffigurati nel loro aspetto, mentre l’interiorità appartiene a una dimensione ‘altra’, una estensione immateriale implicita nella figurazione affinché il significato  possa essere intercettato e percepito. La pittura, sogno utopico, diviene intimo rifugio tramite cui sussurrare l’imminente necessità di una indispensabile urgenza vitale.
