EN - Angelo Volpe was born in Naples (Italy), where he lives and works.

In 1995 he obtained the Diploma of “Applied Art in Graphics for Advertising and Photography”.  In 2000 he obtained a "Degree in Painting" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. After the studies, in 2002 he collaborated as an assistant on the creation of a wall drawing by the artist Sol LeWitt at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples, becoming one of the main reference assistants of the American artist in Italy.

Active since 2005 with his personal artistic research, Volpe favors painting as a medium for the creation of his works. The results of this artistic research have found wide visibility in multiple exhibitions, including: “Animamix Biennial-Visual Attract and attack”, MoCA the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, Taiwan (2009). “Brand: New Art”, Museo della Permanente, Milano, Italy (2010). “Dadaumpop”, Rabindranath Tagore Centre, Kolkata, India; BMB Gallery, Mumbai, India; Italian Cultural Centre, NeuDelhi, India; “54th International Exhibition of the VENICE BIENNALE, Official Collateral, Future Pass – From Asia to the World”, Palazzo Mangilli Valmarana, Venezia, Italy; Wereldmuseum, Rotterdam, Holland (2011). “Future Pass – From Asia to the World”, Today Art Museum, Beijing, China; National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, Taiwan (2012).

Angelo Volpe’s artistic research stems from the folds of everyday life to explore the complexity of the soul, the pleasures of matter, and the infinite nuances of memory. At the core of his inquiry vibrates the contrast between the obsessive pursuit of pleasure and the intrinsic fragility of being, both immersed in an era dominated by false needs and ephemeral social models. His intent is to crystallize within his subjects an emotionality and an immediacy capable of defying time.This vision translates into an informed revival of the great Renaissance tradition. His work unfolds through a meticulous process of superimposed glazes: layer upon layer, the color acquires a sensual, realistic rendering, dense with intimacy. From the archetypal contrast between light and shadow emerge atmospheres charged with mystery and suggestion. The paintings, focused on close-ups and carefully cropped details, guide the viewer's gaze in a compositional interplay that both reveals and defines the space of the encounter, suspending reality within an oneiric dimension.Volpe’s work never exhausts itself in a single narrative, but rather urges the viewer to venture beyond the surface of the canvas. While figuration investigates the exteriority of the subject, their interiority belongs to another, immaterial dimension, safely guarded within the pictorial mark itself. Painting thus becomes both an instrument of investigation and a necessary refuge: the sole medium to give voice to an indispensable, vital urgency.

IT - Angelo Volpe nasce a Napoli (Italia), dove vive e lavora. 

Nel 1995 consegue il Diploma di “Arte Applicata in Grafica per la Pubblicità e la Fotografia”. Nel 2000 consegue la “Laurea in Pittura” presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Ultimati gli studi, nel 2002 collabora come assistente alla realizzazione di un wall drawing dell’artista Sol LeWitt presso il Museo di Capodimonte di Napoli, divenendo uno dei principali assistenti di riferimento dell’artista statunitense in Italia.

Attivo dal 2005 con la sua personale ricerca artistica, Volpe privilegia la pittura come medium per la realizzazione delle sue opere. La ricerca artistica di Angelo Volpe trae impulso dalla pieghe della quotidianità per esplorare la complessità dell'anima, i piaceri della materia e le infinite sfumature della memoria. Al centro della sua indagine vibra il contrasto tra l’ossessiva ricerca del piacere e la fragilità intrinseca dell’essere, immersi in un’epoca dominata da falsi bisogni e modelli sociali effimeri. L’intento è cristallizzare nei soggetti un’emotività e un’immediatezza capaci di sfidare il tempo. Questa visione si traduce nel recupero colto della grande lezione rinascimentale. Il lavoro si sviluppa attraverso un meticoloso processo a velature sovrapposte: strato dopo strato, il colore acquisisce una resa sensuale, realistica e densa di intimità. Dal contrasto archetipico tra luce e ombra affiorano atmosfere cariche di mistero e suggestione. I dipinti, focalizzati su primi piani e dettagli accuratamente ritagliati, guidano lo sguardo dell'osservatore in un gioco compositivo che svela e delimita lo spazio dell'incontro, sospendendo il reale in una dimensione onirica. L’opera di Volpe non si esaurisce mai in una singola narrazione, ma esorta a varcare la superficie della tela. Se la figurazione indaga l'esteriorità del soggetto, la sua interiorità appartiene a una dimensione altra, immateriale, custodita nel segno pittorico stesso. La pittura diviene così uno strumento di indagine e un rifugio necessario: l'unico mezzo per dare voce a un'indispensabile urgenza vitale.
